Flawed heroes. Queer love.

Intricate worlds.

Author of several books, including The Unbroken, Fate’s Bane, and Ambessa: Chosen of the Wolf, along with a handful short stories and essays exploring love and war and hope and sacrifice in immersive fantasy worlds.

Hey, I’m C. L. Clark

I’m a novelist, a short story writer, sometimes even an essayist obsessed with what it means to be a hero and the difficult choices we make for love. I build worlds and write about the people in them, the beasts and the monsters, how they come together to make cultures, make societies, make alliances and conflicts. I write about how we’re all connected and always will be, for better and for worse.

I write about bodies, training themhow they build and break and hold us up anyway, how the world is nothing without them, our love and our hatred for them, the ecstasy and the agony of them. Yes, that includes sex. It also includes dancing and running and falling and fighting and feeling the rain on your skin and the taste of sweat and new foods.

You’ll find all of that and more in my books and blog posts, along with occasional writing/publishing advice. Sign up for the newsletter for updates on new work, events, and bonus materials.

Praise for C. L. Clark

Alix E. Harrow, author of The Everlasting

“With Fate's Bane, C.L. Clark has written a book that feels like a ballad sung at dusk, or a tale told by torch-light: haunting, ancient, full of bad blood and true love. Gather round, listen close--I promise, you'll never forget it.”

Hannah Kaner, bestselling author of Godkiller

“Bardic and powerful, Clark weaves a timeless narrative of pain and retribution, love, loss and family against the backdrop of the ancient fens." [Fate’s Bane]

Tasha Suri, bestselling author of The Jasmine Throne

“A perfect military fantasy: brutal, complex, human and impossible to put down.” [The Unbroken]

Fadwa, of WordWoonders

THE UNBROKEN is a masterpiece in the exploration and dismantling of colonisation. The book being inspired by North African history has hit really close to home for me and touched me in a way I cannot really do justice to in words.”

William Gwynne, of The Brothers Gwynne

“We are thrust into an immersive world that is gritty, dark and visceral…. The character conflict both internal and external is wonderfully crafted, as is the history of our world and the evolution of the plot and tension. Clark shows herself to be a writer of great talent. I cannot wait to carry on with the series!” [The Unbroken]

Lena

“this was so beautiful dawg” [Fate’s Bane]
