November Updates
and Awards Eligibility!
Hey, team! How’s it going? Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who are spending time with family. I’m missing mine fiercely (hi, guys!) as this is a big family holiday for me.
In that spirit, I would like to first say, thank you. Thank you for following my antics here. Thank you for reading my work and telling people about it! Thank you for the kind comments and reviews you’ve left me, for reaching out to tell me when something touched you, and even for tagging me to tell me you think my characters are hot! Or drawing my characters to show me they’re hot! (we love to see it.) Thank you for the invites to speak or guest blog, thank you for spending your precious time with this made up stuff I did. Thank you for your kindnesses to me and mine while we grieved. It has been such a long year. The highs have been euphoric and the lows heartbreaking. Thank you for your generosity to others. For interpreting things in the best faith possible, even when the internet has jaded us. Thank you other artists and writers for the work that’s kept me afloat this year. Even things I haven’t read yet fill me with so much optimism at the possibilities. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunities, the readers, and the colleagues I’ve had. Thanks for being here.
It’s getting chilly here in London; I just had to buy a pair of running gloves after almost freezing my fingers off earlier this week. This weekend, the forecast says snow!
I have a lot of exciting things in the works, some of which include NDAs, so they are extra exciting. My time has mostly been filled working on those and on the latest revision for The Faithless (aka 2 Unbroken 2 Break).
Some of the latest:
Goodreads Choice Awards - Best Fantasy! - Opening round closes November 28
I was thrilled to find out that The Unbroken is on the Goodreads Choice Awards in the Best Fantasy category. It’s a nice acknowledgement and I’m grateful for the readers who put it there. You can vote in the opening round here! It’s a stacked category full of amazing queer books (the entire Holy Sapphic Trinity!) by queer people of color, and I’m pretty stoked to be among them.
Awards Eligibility Post!
Nomination season is almost upon us! Along with The Unbroken, which I would love for you to consider on your ballots for Best Novel and Debut Novel, I have several other projects in different categories—Best Short Story, Best Related Work, Best Audio, Best Editor, and more! If you have voting memberships, I’d love your consideration. In a future update, when the voting opens, I’ll provide links for easier access.
Bag of Giving Game Night - Court of Blades - Sunday, December 5 @ 1 PM ET.
I’ll be playing a new game Court of Blades with some awesome folks (including my buddy Brent Lambert from the FIYAH team!). This is a one-off game session and all donations will support the Maryland Food Bank. Tune in at twitch.tv/arvaneleron. I will be devilishly handsome bodyguard with a sword. ;)
New Fan Art by @Marceline2174
I look at this art pretty much every day before I write and several times during. Wow wow wow. Lieutenant Touraine and Princess Luca, everybody.
SECRET STUFF
I have exciting news! That I can’t tell you! But I can tell you to watch this space and to think very hard about these tweets.
Some other small notes…
- SFWA Blog Editor - I will be leaving this position by the end of the year because of other opportunities that demand a bit more of my time. I’ve truly enjoyed the opportunity to work with the rest of the SFWA Publications team and with the writers who trusted me with their articles. I’m looking forward to watching the blog and bulletin continue onward in the teams capable hands.
- I wrote a little motivational piece to help folks get through NaNoWriMo Week 3, but I think it’s applicable for any almost-there-but-not-quite angst.
- I will be doing some teaching next year with Roots. Wounds. Words.! Stay tuned for enrollment links.
- PLEASE GO WATCH ARCANE ON NETFLIX NOW.
- ALSO YOU CAN GO WATCH THE WHEEL OF TIME. I was lucky enough to go to the fan premier at the Tower of London and had a blast! (It’s not Arcane, but I love it for what it is.)
Inevitably, I have forgotten something I desperately wanted to share with you all, but that is the way of things.
Stay sharp, my friends, and be well.
