Obligatory but joyful!
[Edit 10 Jan 2021: This is a bit awkward; I wrote and scheduled this post back in early December and forgot about it and then…well. You know. A coup attempt, some book giveaways, and other things that are difficult to keep up with, all in the midst of a pandemic.]
This year, I had a few stories published that I’m really proud of!
In order of earliest to most recent, we have:
“Forgive Me, My Love, for the Ice and the Sea” is out in Beneath Ceaseless Skies in January 2020 issue, #296. A pirate's lover is held hostage by the Courts unless the pirate can come back with the head of the pirate queen.
(5600 words – high fantasy: pirates, queer love, ocean goddess, magic)
"You Perfect, Broken Thing" is out at Uncanny Magazine in the Jan/Feb 2020 issue. A personal trainer coaches a band of dying athletes to win the one race that can save their lives. (3700 words - post-apocalyptic/dystopian: tough mudder, obstacle course, found family, muscles)
And last but not least, "When the Last of the Birds and the Bees Have Gone On" is in the anthology Glitter + Ashes: queer tales of a world that wouldn't die, edited by dave ring. It's a set of instructions for living life as one of the Winged, inspired by the short story "Girl" by the phenomenal Jamaica Kincaid.
