Boxes of Books!

All finished copies of The Sovereign and Fate’s Bane have arrived!

Boxes of Books!
a box of fate’s banes est sur la table. a box of sovereigns est sous la table.

I really don’t even know what to say. It’s amazing having all of these boxes around the house, though my partner probably does not agree and eventually, I will have to put them in the little attic space to wait until I periodically need to give some more away. There are a total of four: two US boxes from The Sovereign, one UK Sovereign, and one Fate’s Bane.

Who wants some books?

I suppose I intend to save all the really mush stuff for the actual publication day, but eh, why! I’m excited now and I will be excited then and I will also have more things to say then. So for now…

Damn. I wrote these. I made them, out of the weird wrinkled purple matter in my skull.

Holding Fate’s Bane, in particular is kind of wild. It’s such a beautiful, tiny little package, and there is a beautiful surprise beneath the jacket that I didn’t know about and took my breath away. I love the design, the cover font, the end papers, all of it. I also love The Sovereign, but the paperback has fewer design elements to play with.

It is especially wild to have these finished books all piled about me while I putter (sprint/jog/drag my sorry ass) through the last quarter of Warmongers. As of last night, after a 3000 word session, the book has clocked in a 163k. The group chat gets an excerpt, but at this point, because of the structure of the book, everything is a mad spoiler.

It’s in such a raw form right now, but I am so proud of it. Being surrounded by all of these finished pieces, it might be easy to look at Warmongers and despair at how far it has to go before it looks like Fate’s Bane, like The Sovereign. But honestly, I’m having fun with where it is right now. The things I have to do to take it from the playground it is now to the final are a different kind of grueling, a different kind of game. And I am so eager to share Warmongers with you when the time comes.

But right now, it’s just so frickin cool to see both ends of the spectrum at the same time.

(And if you really want perspective, I’ve got books I’m supposed to finish by the end of the year that are only in the idea phase, just a twinkle in their father’s eye.)

just kidding, the eye still twinkles. ✨
