I’m thrilled to finally announce that I sold my debut novel (and its two sequels) to Orbit for publication in March 2021. (You can pre-order here and add it on Goodreads!) I’ve been fighting to keep this a secret since December last year, and oof. I’m glad to get it off my chest.
I’m working with an amazing set of editors at Orbit (including Hugo-nominated editor Brit Hvide, who also edited N. K. Jemisin’s The Fifth Season, one of my all time favorite books). I also have an amazing cover, designed by Lauren Panepinto and art by Tommy Arnold (of Gideon the Ninth and Sorcerer of the Wildeeps fame).
This novel is the culmination of my colonial/post-colonial studies and an examination of the ways women are allowed to be violent–women in war, women who like to fight, women of revolution. It’s also about culpability and complicity.
I’m finishing up copyedits right now, and after that, I’ll get back to writing book two. ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) will come some time after that.
In the meantime, check out the cover and the first chapter excerpt at io9! Featuring: muscles, camels, assassins, cranky best friends.
And it’s gaaaaaay. Real gay. ⚔︎
